What float costs you

Float is money that has left your customer but not yet reached you. While it is in transit you cannot spend it, save it or use it to pay down a loan. The more you take and the longer it takes to arrive, the more money is tied up on any given day.

Shrinking the float

Faster payouts shrink the float. Instant systems such as Faster Payments in the UK and SEPA Instant in Europe move money in seconds, while card payouts and slower transfers such as Bacs can take days. Comparing payout times is as worth doing as comparing fees.
