What does SendPay Business actually do?

You come to us with an idea — a neobank, a card programme, a crypto exchange, a money-transfer service — and we give you the platform to run it: your brand, your customers, your pricing. You don't write code, apply for banking rails or integrate a dozen APIs; that's what we've already built.

Can I really launch my own bank?

No, and we will not tell you otherwise. A bank takes deposits and needs authorisation from the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. What you can launch is a branded money platform — accounts, cards, payments, transfers and exchange — running on our software and our partners' rails. Yours is the brand, the customers, the pricing and the relationship. Ours is the plumbing. Whether you need your own registration or licence to run it is a separate question, and the honest answer is in the next one.

What technology sits behind it?

We integrate the providers a fintech would otherwise spend years assembling — card issuing and processing, multi-currency accounts, international payout rails, KYC/AML checks, fraud screening and ledgering — behind one platform. We continuously add and swap providers as better ones appear, so your platform keeps improving without you rebuilding anything.

How long does it take to launch?

The build itself takes minutes — pick your type, brand it, choose what it does, preview the real site. Launching is free: say you are ready, confirm it's you with a photo ID and proof of address, and we launch it for you once your ID is approved. Every customer who signs up gets their own wallet, so you never set up a payment account yourself. Branded Visa cards and payment connections are arranged by our team after launch, on request.

Do I need my own licence?

Almost certainly, if you are handling other people's money. Our partners' permissions are theirs — they cover what our partners do, they do not extend to you, and they are not a substitute for your own. In the UK, running a money transfer or currency exchange business generally means registering with HMRC as a money service business, and some models need FCA authorisation or registration instead. We are not licensed advisers and we do not tell you which one you need. Get your own regulatory advice before you take a single customer payment. Your platform goes live when you launch it. We do not hold it back, so making sure you are allowed to do what it does is on you.

Can I use my own domain and my own payment provider?

Yes. Platforms start on app.sendpaybusiness.com/p/your-name, running on our accounts and rails so you can launch immediately. When you're ready to stand alone, you move to your own domain and your own payment account — the same platform, now fully yours. That step needs your own registered company and full verification.

SendPay Business is built for businesses worldwide, and onboarding is fully online and takes minutes: sign up with your email, a password, your business name and your mobile number, and you're in. You can open an account from almost anywhere (a short list of sanctioned countries is the only exception).

How do I add money or top up?

Go to Add Funds. You can top up five ways: Card, Bank transfer to your own account, Crypto, Cash via a local agent, or Western Union. A card charge goes through instantly and funds clear straight to your balance — ready to send to 135+ countries right away. The others are credited as soon as the funds are confirmed.

How does cash pick-up / paying in cash work?

Choose Cash on the Add Funds screen and we show you the business account details to hand to your local cash agent. You pay the agent in cash, they send it to those details, and your SendPay balance is credited once it's confirmed — ideal when you don't have a card or bank to hand.

Yes. Send money to any other SendPay Business instantly and with zero fees — just find them by email, phone number or their SendPay code, like a message. It lands in their balance immediately.

How do I get a Visa card?

Virtual & physical Visa cards are available on the Gold Corporate account. Upgrade from Account → Upgrade, then request your card in the Cards section. Both spend directly from your SendPay Business balance.

What is card issuing?

Card issuing lets you create virtual cards and order physical cards that spend from your balance — freeze, unfreeze and manage them yourself. Cards are issued by our card partner under the card scheme's rules; SendPay is not a card issuer and is not a scheme member. Issuing cards to your own customers on a platform you run with us is a separate thing and is not switched on when you launch it: it needs our card partner's approval of you and of your card programme, it needs whatever registration or authorisation your own model requires, and every cardholder must be identity-verified first.

How do I verify my identity (KYC)?

Sign-up needs only your email, a password, your business name and your mobile number. The ID check comes later: when you are ready to launch your platform, or once your account has taken £500. You give your legal name and date of birth, then take a live photo of your ID and your proof of address in the app (live, not an uploaded file, so it is far harder to fake). Our team reviews it quickly. Verification is fully in-house — there's no third-party branding.

How do I turn on two-factor authentication?

Go to Account → Authentication and set up an authenticator app, a 6-digit login PIN, or a one-time email code. We'll confirm it's you at login and for sensitive actions, so your account is protected even if someone learns your password.

Every account supports two-factor authentication and a private-session mode that hides sensitive details. You also get a unique SendPay Business Code to verify yourself with a live agent without sharing sensitive information.

How do I launch my own platform?

Go to the Platforms page and build it yourself: pick a type, brand it, and choose your pages and features. Designing, previewing and launching it are all free. The only step before it goes live is your ID check: a photo ID and proof of address.

Is SendPay Business regulated by the FCA?

Accepted Answer

No. SendPay Business is a technology company. We are not a bank, we do not take deposits, we do not hold client money permissions, and we are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. The regulated parts — holding and moving funds, foreign exchange and card issuing — are carried out by licensed partners under their own authorisations. We say this plainly because a platform that is vague about it is a platform you should not trust with money.

So whose permissions cover my business?

Yours. Our partners' authorisations cover what our partners do for us. They do not extend down to you, and you must never tell your own customers that they do — that is a misrepresentation and it is the fastest way to attract a regulator's attention. Clause 18 of our Terms puts this obligation on you explicitly.

What do I actually need in the UK?

It depends entirely on your model, and this is not advice. As a general orientation: transmitting money or exchanging currency as a business usually requires registration with HMRC as a money service business under the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. Issuing electronic money or providing payment services in your own right usually requires FCA authorisation or registration as a payment institution or e-money institution. Acting as an agent of an already-authorised firm is a third route. Which of these applies to you is a question for a regulatory solicitor or compliance consultant, not for us.

Will you help me get a licence?

We will not advise you on it, because we are not licensed to and getting it wrong would harm you. We can point you toward specialists who do this for a living. Nothing we sell is a warranty that you will obtain any permission, and no add-on shortcuts a regulator's decision.

Question 35

What are my own AML obligations if I run a platform?

Accepted Answer

If you handle customer funds, they are entirely yours: customer due diligence, ongoing monitoring, sanctions screening, record keeping and suspicious activity reporting, plus appointing a money laundering reporting officer where required. Our tooling helps — identity checks, screening at signup, a full customer record with IP and device history — but it is an aid, not a discharge of your duty. We are not your MLRO and we do not file your reports.

Can I say my platform is 'FCA regulated' or 'protected'?

Only if it genuinely is, and then only in terms you can substantiate. Financial promotions in the UK are restricted under section 21 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, and unsubstantiated claims also breach the advertising codes. Anything our builder writes for you is a first draft produced without knowledge of your regulatory status — read it and correct it before you publish it, because once it is on your site it is your promotion.

Is my money protected by the FSCS?

No. Money held through the Service is not a bank deposit and is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. It is held with our payment partners. We say so in clause 3.6 of our Terms and we would rather you knew now than found out at the worst possible moment.

Where is my money actually held?

Accepted Answer

With our regulated payment partners, in accounts they operate under their own authorisations. Your balance in the app is our record of what is held for you. Where our record and the partner's differ, we show you the lower figure until it is reconciled, because showing you the higher one would be showing you money you cannot spend.

Do I earn interest?

No. We do not pay interest on balances.

Question 40

What happens to my money and my platform if SendPay stops trading?

Accepted Answer

You can export your data, including your customer records and transaction history, at any time while your platform is active and for 30 days after it ends. If we ceased trading we would give as much notice as practicable, co-operate on migrating your data, and work with the relevant partner so funds held for you and your customers can be returned or transferred. We do not warrant that the service continues indefinitely, and a business handling other people's money should keep its own contingency arrangements.

Why was my payment held or my account restricted?

Because a legal, regulatory, fraud or risk check required it. Sometimes we are legally prohibited from telling you the reason, and where that is the case we will not — not because we are being unhelpful, but because tipping off is itself an offence. Where we can tell you what is needed to resolve it, we will.

When does my platform actually go live?

Launching is free. We launch it for you once a person here confirms that your identity check is complete. Publication is never automatic. If your model needs a licence or registration, you must hold it before you serve customers; we tell you what usually applies. Until launch it is a private preview — visible to anyone with the link, but closed to registrations, and you must not present it to the public as a live service.

How do I complain?

Email support@sendpaybusiness.com with the details. We aim to acknowledge within 3 business days and respond substantively within 15, and in any event within 35. Because we are not FCA authorised, a complaint about us cannot be referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service. A complaint about a regulated service one of our partners provided should go to that partner, who will tell you what referral rights you have.

Who owns my platform?

You own your brand, your content and your customer data. You get a licence to use the software we built and host. The intellectual property assignment add-on assigns you the bespoke design and content made specifically for you — it does not hand over our underlying platform software, our templates, third-party or open-source components, and it is not a copy of our source code. We would rather be precise about that before you launch than argue about it afterwards.

Who controls my customers' data?

Accepted Answer

You do. If you run a platform, you are an independent data controller for your own customers, and we act as your processor for what we handle on your instructions. That means you need your own privacy notice, your own lawful basis and your own process for handling data subject requests. Part D of our Terms sets out the processing terms between us for the purposes of Article 28 of the UK GDPR.

How long do you keep my records?

Identity and transaction records are generally kept for at least five years after the relationship ends, because the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 require it. Other data is deleted or returned on termination unless we are required to keep it or need it to defend a legal claim.

Is my data sent outside the UK?

It can be. Where it is, we rely on a UK adequacy decision or on the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, with additional safeguards where they are needed.

A small, transparent fee is shown up front on each transaction. On the Basic plan, card top-ups are capped at £100 per transaction and payment links at £250 per payment, while sending and receiving stay unlimited. Higher tiers raise or remove the caps.

SendPay Business is not a bank. Your funds are held with regulated payment partners that safeguard them separately from our own money. Because it isn't a bank account, balances aren't covered by the FSCS deposit guarantee.
