How to take payments on social media: selling through Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook
By SendPay Business · · 2 min read
Plenty of small businesses make most of their sales in direct messages: a customer sees a post, sends a message, and asks how to pay. How you take that payment affects how many sales you close, and how safe both sides feel.
The usual ways to get paid
- Sharing bank details for a bank transfer.
- Using a platform's own shop or checkout, where available.
- Sending a payment link in the chat.
Why a payment link helps
A link lets the customer pay by card or other methods in a couple of taps, without typing in bank details. It shows your business name and the amount, and you are told when it is paid. Customers are also more wary of sending money by bank transfer to someone they only know from social media, because scams often work that way.
Staying safe
Use the same business name everywhere, send links only from your own accounts, and never ask customers to pay a different account from the one on your invoice or website. Tell customers how you will contact them, so they can spot fake messages.
Where SendPay fits
