The take rate formula
Take rate is what a platform earns from sales divided by the total value of those sales, often called GMV. If buyers spend 100,000 through a marketplace and it earns 12,000 in commissions and fees, its take rate is 12%.
Gross and net take rate
The headline take rate counts everything the platform charges. The net take rate subtracts what the platform pays to others on each sale, such as card processing, so it shows what the platform really keeps to cover its own costs and profit.
