How to work out a percentage

To find a percent of a number, multiply the number by the percent and divide by 100. Fifteen percent of 80 is 80 times 15 divided by 100, which is 12.

Percentage increase and decrease

Take the old number from the new one, divide by the old number and multiply by 100. Going from 50 to 60 is a 20% increase. Going from 60 back to 50 is only a 16.7% decrease, because the starting number is different.
