The common lot sizes
In forex trading, a lot is a set amount of currency you trade in one go. A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot 10,000 units, a micro lot 1,000 units, and a nano lot, offered by some brokers, 100 units.
How lot size changes a pip
For a pair like EUR/USD, where a pip is 0.0001, one pip on a standard lot is worth about 10 US dollars, on a mini lot about 1 dollar, and on a micro lot about 10 cents. The same price move costs or earns ten times more with each step up in lot size, and leverage makes losses grow just as fast as gains.
