Chargeback ratio calculator
Work out your chargeback ratio, how close it is to your payment provider's limit, how many more chargebacks you can take before you cross it, and what chargebacks are costing you. Free, no sign-up, nothing leaves your browser.
Use the limit and fee in your own payment provider's terms; the starting figures are only examples. Count chargebacks and payments over the same period.
How the ratio is worked out
Divide the chargebacks in a period by the card payments in the same period and multiply by 100. Five chargebacks from 1,000 payments in a month is 0.5%. Card schemes run monitoring programmes and payment providers set their own limits, often well below 1%.
What a chargeback really costs
When a chargeback goes against you, you usually lose the sale, any goods already sent, and a separate chargeback fee from your provider. A high ratio can also lead to a reserve held back from payouts. Clear descriptions, easy refunds and 3D Secure checks all help keep it down.
