Bitcoin halving calculator
Enter a block height to see the current block reward, how many blocks are left until the next Bitcoin halving, roughly when it lands, and how much of the 21 million cap has been issued. Free, no sign-up, nothing leaves your browser.
Copy the latest block height from any Bitcoin block explorer; the starting number is only an example. Blocks aim for 10 minutes each but vary, so the date is an estimate.
| Era | Starts at block | Reward per block |
|---|---|---|
| Launch | 0 | 50 BTC |
| Halving 1 | 210,000 | 25 BTC |
| Halving 2 | 420,000 | 12.5 BTC |
| Halving 3 | 630,000 | 6.25 BTC |
| Halving 4 (now) | 840,000 | 3.125 BTC |
| Halving 5 | 1,050,000 | 1.5625 BTC |
| Halving 6 | 1,260,000 | 0.78125 BTC |
About 20,031,253.125 BTC issued, counting every block's reward since the first. Fees paid to miners are on top of the reward.
What the halving is
The Bitcoin halving is a built-in rule that cuts the reward for mining new blocks in half. It happens every 210,000 blocks, which works out at roughly every four years, and it slows the rate at which new bitcoin is created.
Why it exists
Bitcoin's supply is capped at 21 million coins. Halvings spread the release of new coins over time, so fewer are created with each cycle until the cap is reached. Past price moves around halvings are no promise of what happens next.
