Overdraft cost calculator
See what being overdrawn really costs: the interest for the days you're in your overdraft, any monthly fee, and what the same balance would cost over a year. Free, no sign-up, nothing leaves your browser.
Use the rate your bank shows for your account; the starting rate is only an example. This assumes the balance stays the same for the whole time.
How overdraft interest is charged
An arranged overdraft lets you go below zero up to an agreed limit. Interest is usually worked out on the amount you are overdrawn each day and taken from your account once a month. In the UK, banks show the cost as an EAR, the yearly rate including the effect of interest being added.
Keeping the cost down
The cost grows with both the amount and the number of days, so clearing even part of the balance quickly helps. Some accounts have a small interest-free buffer, and going over your limit or using an unarranged overdraft can mean declined payments. Check your own bank's rate and terms.
