What market cap means
A coin's market capitalisation is its price multiplied by the number of coins in circulation. It is a quick way to compare the size of different coins: a coin with a low price can still be large if there are billions of them, and a coin with a high price can be small if there are few.
Why a target market cap is only a what-if
Working out the price a coin would have at another coin's market cap shows how much the whole coin would need to grow, not what it will do. Supply can change as new coins are issued or burned, and market cap says nothing about how much money could actually be paid out if holders sold.
