What is an account information service? How apps read your bank data
By SendPay Business · · 2 min read
An account information service provider (AISP) is a regulated firm that can read your bank account data, with your permission, through open banking. It can see balances and transactions but can't move money.
How it works
- You choose to connect your bank in an app, such as a budgeting or accounting tool.
- You're sent to your bank to log in and approve the access.
- The app gets read-only access to the accounts you picked.
- You can remove the access at any time, in the app or with your bank.
Common uses
Budgeting apps that pull in all your accounts, accounting software that matches bank transactions to invoices, and lenders that check income and spending when you apply for credit.
AISP vs PISP
An AISP reads data. A payment initiation service provider (PISP) starts payments from your account. Some firms hold both permissions.
