What is a crypto whitepaper? How to read one before you buy
By SendPay Business · · 2 min read
A crypto whitepaper is a document a project publishes to explain what it is building, how its technology works and how its token fits in. The best-known is the Bitcoin whitepaper, published under the name Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008.
What a good whitepaper covers
A clear problem and why a blockchain is needed to solve it, how the system works, the token's supply and use, who is behind the project, and a plan with realistic steps.
Red flags
- Promises of guaranteed or very high returns.
- Vague technology with lots of buzzwords.
- No named team, or a team that cannot be checked.
- Text copied from other projects' whitepapers.
- Most tokens kept by the founders.
A whitepaper proves nothing on its own
Anyone can write a whitepaper. What matters is whether the project has actually built what it describes, whether its code is public and reviewed, and whether people really use it.
Where SendPay fits
